For exchange control purposes, funds brought into Barbados to purchase property should be registered with the Central Bank of Barbados. This allows the Central Bank to record the foreign currency entering the country and account for any future repatriation of funds, should the owner later decide to sell the property.
This is typically handled by the buyer’s local attorney as part of the purchase process.
Once a price is agreed and a local attorney is engaged, it will typically take between 60-90 days to close the purchase of a property. If a local mortgage is involved, it may take slightly longer. Our property sales team are on hand to help take you through the process.
